Hurley’s Courageous Fight

If you’ve ever thought that a pit bull couldn’t steal your heart, then look no further than Hurley, the Wonder Pit.

His special story will give you a completely different perspective of pitties.

Hurley was a fighter…no…not in the way that you may be assuming.
Hurley was a fighter because he tried his best to beat cancer…lymphoma to be exact.

Yes, he was a pit bull, and he had a heart of gold.

A mommy and daddy that loved him as well as a close bond with his lab/pit bull mix brother Wednesday.

In fact, Hurley and Wednesday were so close that their mother created a children’s book based on their friendship titled The Tale of 2 Pitties.

Hurley even developed a close bond with his Maine Coon kitten sibling Chewbacca after a very wary start.

It seemed that Hurley found what most shelter animals want the most…a loving forever home.

After being surrendered to the LA Animal Shelter at the tender age of one-years-old for being “too much work”, Hurley finally had a stable environment filled with both human and animal companions that loved him dearly.

What more could any pittie ask for?

Everything seemed to be going well…until Hurley was about 4-years-old. One night, Hurley became ill.

He wasn’t eating his food, and he was peeing in his bed. After the second night of the same behaviors, Hurley’s concerned owners knew something was wrong and decided to take Hurley to the emergency vet.

This was done as a precautionary method. Hurley was just 4-years-old…practically still a puppy. Perhaps he just had a little bug that was making him ill.

Unfortunately, this was not the case. After a thorough examination and a battery of tests, the vet revealed that Hurley had Lymphoma. Hurley’s owners were devastated.

Over the next 3 months, Hurley’s owners would do everything possible to help Hurley beat the lymphoma diagnosis.

Opting not to put Hurley through the rigors of chemotherapy; Hurley’s owners decided to take a holistic approach to help Hurley beat cancer.

From meal prepping to holistic vet visits and treatments, using alkaline water, and even driving hours to pick up special CDB oil, Hurley’s owners were committed to helping Hurley beat his cancer diagnosis in any way possible.

Helping Hurley beat cancer became their personal mission.

Hurley’s owners shared Hurley’s courageous fight against lymphoma with the public through social media, and so much love and support poured in from family and strangers alike.

In fact, the non-profit agency Live Like Roo Foundation decided to make t-shirts with an image of Hurley with the slogan #HurleyStrong as a show of support for Hurley.

All the proceeds from the sale of the t-shirts were used to assist with the payment of Hurley’s vet bills.

Although Hurley was a fighter, the lymphoma did take its toll. Hurley became an emaciated version of his former self.

No longer wanting Hurley to suffer, his owners decided that it would be best to let him go. At the tender age of 4-years-old, Hurley crossed the Rainbow Bridge surrounded by his loving owners.

Hurley’s short life was not lived in vain. His presence was deeply enjoyed by those that had the pleasure of being in his company.

He will be forever remembered as Hurley, the Wonder Pit; the pit bull that managed to find a loving home and fight cancer while touching the hearts of those near and far.
